Unified Martial Arts Academy offers the highest
quality training for kids and adults in karate,
ju-jitsu, weapon arts, and fitness kickboxing.
Martial Arts - Kids and Adults ages 6 and up
A typical class includes hitting the heavy bags, ground fighting, weapon
drills, conditioning exercises, etc. The training is fun, challenging, and
highly rewarding. Beginners may start after observing a class first (to
become familiar with how classes work). After class, if you'd like to
sign-up, you are given your uniform and pads (included with tuition) and
you can begin the next available class.
Fitness Kickboxing - ages 13 and up
Hitting the heavy bags may be the greatest overall exercise. It is both
cardio and strength training in one. And more than just a great workout,
you will develop self-defense skills, improve coordination, balance, focus,
and get rid of stress! A variety of core and other conditioning exercises
are mixed in throughout class. Kickboxing is fun and easy to follow along.
This is a non-sparring class. Beginners may join in anytime and try a
class free. Just show up in comfortable clothes to workout in, bring
water, and get ready to sweat!

What is a dojo?
The word dojo means "place of the way". It is a training hall to practice
budo, "martial way". The martial way is to live a life of discipline,
integrity, and compassion for others. It is about becoming stronger, for
yourself, and to help others along the way. It is learning to be in the
present, to find happiness in the simple, everyday things (Zen). The way
is not always easy. If it were easy, it would not be the way.
What arts will I learn at Unified Martial Arts Academy? We practice a
blend of karate, ju-jitsu, and weapon arts.
Karate means "empty hand" or "China hand" and there are many styles.
Ours is based on Chinese kempo. Kempo means "fist law" and focuses
on rapid-fire striking. Where some martial arts use mainly kicking, kempo
prefers the use of hands, elbows, and knees at close-range.
Ju-jitsu means "gentle art" and focuses on controlling techniques and
ground fighting. Because kempo is a close-range art, grappling arts like
ju-jitsu naturally blend with it.
Weapons training improves speed, balance, coordination, and focus. In
martial arts, weapons are an extension of yourself and help you to move
with more fluidity and awareness. Our primary weapon art is called kali, a
stick-fighting art from the Philippines.

The benefits of training are many. In
our fast-paced society, training offers
another way, an old way based on
discipline. If you are ready to get into
the best shape of your life, help your
kids improve focus, discipline, and
confidence, learn self-defense skills,
turn stress into something positive and
develop a calm mind...then we would
be honored to train with you and help
you in achieving your goals.
The dojo is located at 2263 McKnight Rd. in
North St. Paul - 2 blocks south of Hwy 36.
All classes are taught by owner and founder of
the dojo, Sensei Cory Albert. Sensei Albert has
over 27 years of training and has been running
his school for the past 17 years.
